Anyone watched the news just now? One of the latest President scholar (4 of them) is a PRC. According to the news reported, she will have to decide whether to become a citizen at age 21, and will have to return the scholarship if she does not become a citizen.

No young Singaporean wants to be a President scholar? Even this cannot be reserved for Singaporean, must take risk to give to a foreigner! :(

The PAP govt. is biting the hands that feed them. Who pay their salaries, who give them the mandate to rule and who help make Singapore into a prosperous city? The true blue Singaporeans. Wake up, bloody FAP.

This will set a precedence.. In the coming future, there'll be a President's scholar from India..

They have the records. They know very well that after A level, the cream of the foreign scholars go on to US and other countries for their further study and will never return. We trained the top students for other countries and keep the mediocre to compete with our very own locals. Just cannot understand the logic. If that girl is really the cream, she will never return. Good luck to whoever that becomes the guarantor.

Singaporeans are forgiving. Just give them a few hundred dollars and all will be forgotten. I do not believe that there are no other deserving students for the President Scholarship other than that PRC. I have a feeling that they are testing the general sentiment of the ground by doing this. The scholarship was once an envy of every student and now it is being degraded to be another piece of toilet paper for our pubic toilets.

The pappy has decided this national day period to "payback" the locals who dared to vote against them by rubbing salt into their wound.

This action is tantamount to them saying " I am going to bring in more foreigners and treat them better than locals-so what?"

No wonder the PINAY is so bold as to insult silliporeans who have served NS-as no other people in the world has allowed themselves to be bullied by forieigners in this way.Are silliporeans the most cowardly people in the world-where even a Pinay nurse can slap one of the local's parents in an old foks home and get away scot free with impunity.

I hope the PRC who won the president scholarship got it at the expense of a local whoes parents employed PRC's or one of the traitors who voted for the pappy-retribution.

She said that she will renounce her PRC citizenship when she turns 21....why not now? And PSC is so daft to agree to let her have this further window to decide if PRC or Singapore citizenship is better. The only reason for so doing is to demonstrate to would be PRs that there is no risk in coming here to try out first....and to tell Silliporeans go Fxx yourself...we will continue with our existing policies..saying sorry was just to ensure that we don't lose more than 1 GRC and Hougang.

Return the scholarship, she can still sell herself as a member of the "elite and superior chosen few!" I sincerely hope the poor segment of the 60.1% will live to see the children passed over for scholarships in favour of the foreigners!

Most probably the gameplan will go like this.

Take up the scholarship to study, fully funded, all taken care off
Take up citizenship at age 21 and obtain red passport
Apply for US/Europe/Canada PR to work in these countries
Renounce Singapore citizenship upon getting the greencard/PR to convert to be citizen of these countries.

I simply just don't understand if there isn't a true blue Singaporean son/daugther that is worthy of the scholarship that it has to be given to a foreigner.

When PRC PM?????????

Or PRC President which is quite based on current market price.... LOL

The news reported said she came to Singapore at age 4, what is the system like for such case? Only can renounce citizenship at age 21?

She was interviewed and said she already consider herself a Singaporean. Then why don't renounce PRC earlier? Must wait till successful application of President's scholarship then consider herself a Singaporean is it?!

And why not made her immediately choose citizenship, can take the benefit and decide later? Such a sweet deal only opened to foreigners! In the first place, I don't see why must do so much to accommodate her when there are many young local born & bred Singaporeans who would have coveted such prestigious scholarship.

Btw when they report said she came to Spore at age 4, somehow reminds me of the PRC commando rapist who was reported to have come to Spore at age 8.
