COME Dec 31, a large-scale 'inter-national' countdown party will be held in one of the unlikeliest locations in Singapore - Tiong Bahru Park.

The party, organised by the Tanjong Pagar GRC, is expected to attract between 15,000 and 20,000 people.

It is the first countdown party here to heavily involve new citizens and permanent residents, the organiser said on Sunday.

On that day, there will be performances by foreign acts, including a dance troupe from Myanmar, a ventri-loquist from China, and a Japanese rock-and-roll singer.

Bellini House Band from popular nightclub complex St James Power Station will also perform. The band is made up of six members from Singapore, Britain, the United States and the Philippines.

Explaining the decision to hold such a party, Mr Sam Tan, an MP for Tanjong Pagar GRC, said at a press conference on Sunday: 'People who are born and bred in Singapore are our main fighting force. But we need reinforcements in terms of new immigrants.'

Well that's a blessing in disguise, it will entice the banglas away from the real countdown parties
