Abhisit Vejjajiva has successfully defended his leadership of the Democrat Party in a vote held by its members.
The incumbent won 67,505 votes, followed by former Phitsanulok MP Warong Dechgitvigrom (57,689) and former deputy party leader Alongkorn Ponlaboot (2,285). A total of 127,479 party members voted.
The two challengers congratulated Mr Abhisit after the results were made known on Saturday.
Mr Abhisit has not formally become the new party leader yet since the prerogative lies with the general assembly scheduled on Sunday. He will have to be endorsed by a majority of the assembly, or at least 152 of 303 members including former party leaders, executives and MPs.
The vote, supervised by the party's election committee, was A first for the party. It used an electronic voting method based on Raspberry Pi, a credit-card sized computer that plugs into a computer monitor or TV and uses a standard keyboard and mouse. Party members voted using the party's D-Elect mobile app.
The 2017 constitution requires parties to hold primary votes for the first time but the junta issued an order to relax the requirements for the upcoming election, allowing parties to find other ways to let members participate in choosing party leaders.

Abhisit Vejjajiva is the blue-eyed boy of many bigshot powerful party elders. Besides he is photogenic, articulate, marketable and comes with an Oxford education. He is very wealthy too! See, he has got all the credentials!

念红毛书-吃红毛屎! Perfect Sucker the West are always look for.

The Red Shirt Army kicked Ah-Pee-Shit's ass off from his PMO and occupied the PMO for months. Chow Ang Moh never saved his ass?!

Chow Ang Moh are too weak and bankrupted now, awaiting own extinction by famine.

All the 念红毛书-吃红毛屎 politicians in Asia are worthless now.

Full time politician. I watched a documentary about him somewhere sometime ago.

The Democrat Party already boycotted the last elections. Is he still a MP ? He doesn't hold any ministerial post.

Full time politician means jobless lah.

That one I can understand. He is basically living off his wife who is a teaching staff @ Chulalongkorn. No need elite background; handsome alone is enough.

The fact is after he was ousted as PM, he became jobless. That fucker don't want to find a job. Even his previous teaching appointment as law lecturer @ Romklao military college also bullshit one. He studied philosophy, politics and economics @ Oxford, end up teaching law @ military college after obtaining a law degree via distance-learning from Ramkamhaeng U. You know how many Thais got law degree from Ramkamhaeng U ? Even taxi drivers tell me they have law degree from that school.
