Lahad Datu: MIC donates funds to bereaved families
KUALA LUMPUR: The MIC will donate RM5,000 each to the families of the eight policemen killed by Sulu militants in Lahad Datu and Semporna.
Party president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel said that the policemen should be honoured for sacrificing their lives for the nation.
The Minister in the Prime Minis-ter's Department said that the money would be channelled to the families through the Royal Malaysian Police Welfare Fund.
Former MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu has pledged a personal contribution of RM10,000 each to the bereaved families.
In a statement, he said he had already mentioned this to Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar.
Samy Vellu, who is the Special Envoy for Infrastructure (South Asia and India), urged the people to do their part for the families.
