After the ww2, there is a cold war between soviet union and the US. Soviet union is communist and being communist, they and communist china chase the nationalist china out of china and fled to taiwan. So the US and the west has no chance for them to divide China as soviet union join forces with china and fight cold war with the US. Later, the war between north and south korea. China used to have sovereignty over whole of korea but now only north korea.
