IT professional K.S. Gee paid $1.068 million for a five-room flat at Clementi Towers, the highest to date for the first Housing Board project to be integrated with a mall.

He believes it is "a fair deal".

"Because I live on a high floor and have views of the sea and Bukit Timah, there is still a certain degree of exclusivity," he said. "Even if the lease had been 50 or 60 years, it doesn't matter to me because this flat has good attributes."

5 years later sell for 1.5 m......by saying his property has high floor and ocean front view and exclusivity,his value has already gone up by 20 percent.
 
lucky i live in a shythole and possess only view into my neighbour's kitchen and the mscp so i only have to pay 300k for my property.

Actually it is a fair deal because at $20,000 rental per year, it is in line with the rental market, and you don't have to worry about dealing with landlords, signing shitty contracts with property agents, etc.

The only drawback is you lose the time value of money. If you pay rental, you can invest the remainder and use it to earn income.
 
I'd rather invest $1M at 2% returns per year, which is a safe return that one can get from government bonds or statutory board bonds. The 20,000 bond income can then be used to rent a whole unit. But the drawback of this is that you have to deal with landlords, sign shitty contracts with property agents, etc.

His HDB flat may be worth S$1.068m but his next door neighbours are only valued @ S$200K....
