why not go to south korea to see the peasant women? is it cos sk is much richer that's why they don't really have poor peasants? dandong is also at the border with north korea which is super poor.

Actually honestly to tell you the truth koreans are the closest to the stereotypical mongoloid features of flat nose, wide face, slanted eyes. They are the closest.

The Koreans are recognized as one of the official 55 minority tribes in China. 3 million of them, called 朝鲜族, mainly in Jilin, Heilongjiang and Liaoning. They migrated from the Korean peninsula mainly during the 17th century, and later during the Japanese occupation and then the Korean war. Most of them are doing well, and would rather remain as Chinese citizens than suffer poverty in North Korea.

The Chinese have affirmative action for minorities like Koreans and Manchus for university entrance and certain subsidies. So the Koreans are happy there, and they are all bilingual in Mandarin and Korean. Some have assimilated into the Han majority through marriage. Not many dream of going to S. Korea.

A small percentage are present-day N. Korean refugees who risk life and limb to cross the border into China. If caught, they're deported back by the Chinese authorities. Those who escape successfully stay on illegally in China. Some go to the South Korean embassy to seek entry into S. Korea. Many who went to S. Korea ended up being discriminated against and bullied in school and the workplace by their Southern compatriots who see them as uncouth country bumpkins, and some have actually gone back to China again where they are happier and don't face discrimination.

There are also some S. Korean Christian missionaries who have stayed for many years in N.E. China, converting the local Koreans to Christianity.

In my frequent travels the Korean tourists I met especially in airports, I must say most are no different from the Isaan farmers I meet living in Thailand, very different from what we see on TV. What I mean is they are rough, loud, inconsiderate, smells, etc etc. I try to avoid them because they like to push their way through the crowd. So I think maybe what we watch in TV is very much different from the reality or maybe this society has two very distinctive classes?

They are more nationalistic, more homogeneous than the Chinese. China is so big; a northern Chinese is so different from a southern Chinese, as is a Sichuanese from a Shanghainese. But within Korean society, because of the emphasis on conformity and physical mannerisms and appearance, there's discrimination against even their own kind if they're of a lower social class, foreign-born (from China & N. Korea), orphans or disabled.

More upheaval than Germany, I think, because of the wider developmental and ideological gap. When Germany was united, communism was in its death throes in Eastern Europe, whereas North Korea is still in the death grip of Stalinism and the personality cult built around Kim Jong-Il and son.

make-up truly transform and beautify the K stars. you can generalize it for the entertainment industry. read that the korean make-up artists are the best in the business.

allow me to generalize. 80% of people, man or woman, one see on the streets whether Seoul or Beiping are ordinary lookers. majority of people by nature are plain-looking. then there are probably the 10-20% who are naturally better looking. anyway one's views are influenced by environment, prejudices and predilections. i believe Chao'an county women are the prettiest in China.

it crazy why so many young ppl like to watch korean drama especially most of those ancient stories drama depict chinese as the bad guys. basically kenna insulted yet still idolised the actors and actresses. if not for the koreans, japanese would have continue to fear the chinese. japanese thought the chinese are a cultured and powerful race until the myth was destroyed when japanese officers and conscript soldiers(most jap soldiers were literate) find the opposing chinese soldiers in their quest to colonise korea were a bunch of illiterate ruffians. and what did the chinese get for helping the koreans, nothing but insult. zhu yuanzhang and kong fuzi are koreans my arse!!

Actually this view of Koreans as cool and beautiful ppl is the impression they give to ppl worldwide. That's what the Americans think of them too. It doesnt help that this gangnam style song is so popular. Imagine that Americans who are usually the ones spreading their music worldwide dancin and listening to a song that they don't even understand the lyrics to except for 2 words gangnam style. I think this moves the Koreans above the japs in the coolness factor. Seriously if only china could think of something to improve its reputation like Korea. They also had some mediakok host I think kym ng ask some Korean lady in Sg why did she choose a sinkie guy over those cool Korean guys and she just retorted do you even know any korean guys? Yes..i think due to their country geography and history, the Korean have a inferior attitude compared to the Chinese and Japanese. Thus they developed a sense of seige mentality eg the North Koreans and look towards bigger nation and culture ( other than the chinese n Japanese) to gives them a sense of hope eg North Korean form of communism and South Korean form of Protestant Christianity.

They realised that the easiest form of export to the world is pop culture whom they learn from the Japanese..Powerful and incessant marketing of their KPOP stars, Dramas n music is easy and quite successful especially using beautiful and pretty pop stars. Their Gangnam style is also promote strongly by the SKorean govt who was dismay by the Japanese lack of enthu for this horse dance. As in modern , internet age society, KPOP including the horse dance became famous because the Korean knew how to market their stuff.

Their marketing strategy also permeates the electronic and telecommunications sector such as Samsung TV, Smartphones etc whom they sell at a lower price vs Japanese and Apple products with lots of marketings thrown in. In fact, competitors such as Sony, Panasonic, HTC products were better but will always lose out in terms of sheer marketing( in which the Japanese is now starting to do, esp its cameras).

They were also accuse of claiming cultures of others as their own esp those of the chinese origins. A certain segment of Koreans tries to convert the whole Korean ppl and nation to evangelistic Americanised Christianity and putting down their own traditional culture esp Buddhism. They send missionaries all over the world ..Another invented a cult of personality as in ancient culture but based on modern communist ideology.

Every countries have their own ways of behaving and doing things..so are the Koreans. Just that the dramas do not reflect the actual people and culture.
