A few days I boarded a ComfortDelgro taxi. Somewhere along Bukit Timah Road one of the tyres blew. The taxi-driver stopped the vehicle and told me he was calling a workshop to change the tyre. I asked him why he can't do it himself but his reply baffled me. According to him, the wheel locking nuts will crack if he tried to change the tyres himself. He added that old brands like Toyota did not give such problems. He was disgusted that the new Korean Hyundai taxis had sub-standard parts. There are 5 nuts to be unscrewed per tyre and more than one nut will crack and taxi drivers will have to pay for the damage. Subsequently, I checked with other taxi drivers at my kopitiam and they confirmed the story. Sheesh! Buy cheap cheap and this is the result. Same thing happens at our MRT trains?
