Have been contemplating with this issue for 2 years now..confusing part is, when you are feeling good; you would think this suggestion is crap, since you are still young and surely you can work your ways around it..but flipside is when your knees start to hurt so bad that you even have to crawl from the kitchen to the bedroom.
Does any brother here have their knee caps replaced; and did that help ?.Thanks..

What stuff are you taking for your problem? Both knees or one of them?

don't know what are knee caps replacement.

anyway, i previously had a meniscus tear. suffered from locking of the knee. quite painful and annoying. come and go problem. cannot play football. if i turn my knee too much, that's it - locked knee. went for a minor operation to take out the torn meniscus. as years passed by, i had rheumatism on the knee due to the operation.

Likelyhood is, we are talking about the same problem; bro..

Once your meniscus are removed, that's it.Nothing can ever replace them.

I see. It's pretty bad to have a screwed up knee. Your active life is curtailed and you cannot do things you were used to do in the past. If the knee cap replacement will cure your problem go for it, otherwise it will hamper you to live a normal life.

Is your daily life affected?

Bro, if you have read up on the Hip replacement saga of late; you would probably be very worried about what's going to happen to your replaced knee caps after a couple of years; when the metal inserts' start to wear off and
release their metallic toxins into your body..

no, daily life not affected when i had the problem. even running is ok. but i just can't play football. sure get locked knee now and then. after that can't walk probably for a few days.

i wouldn't have went for the operation if it was not during my NS years.

Did not know that. But knee replacements had been done umpteen years ago, was there any problems? I will have to read up on it.

NS has affected many old soldiers' health. For me, I lost my eardrum.

bro, you can ask for the one made of teakwood, doctors in India have been using that for ages
:o

I had a bad knee injury before while playing soccer. The doctor wanted to scope me and told me my cruxiate ligaments kena damaged. My knee was swollen and there was blood inside. The doctor syringed and removed the blood .But I did not go for any surgery. I exercised my knees often and built my quads muscles. My knee slowly recovered and now I am okay.

No medications. No glucosamine. No pain killers. I can run, I can jump, I can jog and I can do anything.

The key IMHO is to build strong muscles to protect your knee. The knee cap is actually rather redundant. It needs not be replaced if it is badly damaged. Just removed it like the appendix and build on strengthening your muscles. You will be fine.:)

Same with me, hurt while playing soccer, torn ligaments. quite swollen, doctor said operation if i wanted to.
I said no, not professional footballer. so let it healed by itself, slowly.

Knee replacement should always be the last resort. Firstly, it has a limited lifespan which means you may need another replacement at some future point in time if you are relatively young now. Besides, the 2nd replacement's result is almost always inferior. Secondly, your knees will never be as good as it's meant to be. Probably will experience stiffness and limited range of motion.
I used to have knee problem too. Tried physio, glucosamine, tcm, etc. Only provided temporary relief. Have been strengthening my knee with exercises and stretchings. My condition is now a lot better than years back.
The other option is stem cell implant. This is expensive and results may not be consistent but I think it is still better than knee replacement.
