KLIA shooting incident leaves man seriously injured​

KUALA LUMPUR: A man was seriously injured after being shot at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 early this morning.
Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan in a statement said the incident occurred at 1.30am this morning at the arrival hall of the airport.

"During the incident, a man fired two shots. One of the shots hit a local man who was also a personal bodyguard.

"Afterward, the man (suspect) immediately fled the scene."

Hussein said, upon further investigation, the police found that the man actually intended to shoot his wife who was waiting there for the return of Umrah pilgrims.

"However, the shot hit an individual causing serious injuries before the suspect fled the scene."

He said the motive behind the incident is still under police investigation and is classified as attempted murder under Section 307 of the Penal Code and the Firearms Act.

Hussein also said that police have identified the suspect's identity.

"We have launched operations to apprehend him, in which the suspect was believed to have fled to the north."

He added that the incident was not linked to any terrorist activities or groups but instead is personal in nature and that the situation at KLIA is now under control and safe.
