PDRM Evacuates Residents in KL After a Landslide Hits the Area Following Heavy Downpour

Following the heavy downpour late last night that continued until this morning (October 15), a landslide took place at a residential area in Taman Melawati, Kuala Lumpur around 10:30 AM.

The main road leading to the residential area is also damaged, along with a car and a small shack for the security guard.

Ampang Jaya District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azam Ismail said he has ordered residents in homes that are deemed at risk to move temporarily.
The police have also deployed officers and members to inform them about the evacuation so that they can evacuate their homes temporarily for security purposes.
“The incident caused 20 terraced houses to be cut off from the main road and so far a car parked inside the house has been damaged due to the landslide.”

At the time of writing (October 15), all residents were instructed to move to the multipurpose hall on Jalan E6 after the area was identified as “high risk”.
In a press conference this evening, the rescue team also said some of the victims have chosen to stay at their relatives’ homes.
PDRM and members of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Selangor have been at the scene since morning to monitor the situation. You can view the aftermath of the landslide in the video below, which is currently circulating on social media.

People keep buying homes in that area knowing full well its not stable. Many land slide occurence. But they are attracted to the greenery.
