<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->I AM writing to express my shock and dismay at the behaviour of Singapore soccer fans during and after the AFF Suzuki Cup semi-final against Vietnam last Sunday at the National Stadium.
I was equally appalled by the lack of security personnel, as well as the inability to control rowdy Singaporean fans. Did the organisers not learn from a similar clash between Singapore supporters with those from Myanmar at the last Tiger Cup? I was seated in the Vietnamese section close to where the Singapore fans sat. It started with a few Singaporean fans poking fun at the Vietnamese, which led to a match-long tit-for-tat between the rival fans. The mood escalated when plastic bottles were thrown by both camps, especially after the Vietnamese team scored what turned out to be the winning goal 15 minutes before the end of the game. But what shocked me was when a glass bottle was thrown into the Vietnamese section, where women and children were present, shortly after the final whistle was blown.
The security personnel were clueless in stopping the escalating violence. They worsened matters by herding the Vietnamese fans out of the stadium smack into the hostile Singapore crowd.
Many of the Vietnamese fans were university students. The waiting crowd threw bags of rubbish at them.
Then, fights broke out. As they were outnumbered, the Vietnamese fans bore the brunt of the kicks and punches. Ambulances had to be summoned.
To witness such ugly behaviour in Singapore, perpetrated by Singaporeans, left me ashamed to be a Singaporean.

>>>The mood escalated when plastic bottles were thrown by both camps<<<

So why not hum tum the Vietcongs who dare to such things after they receive free scholarships and other freebies from Sporns?

>>>As they were outnumbered, the Vietnamese fans bore the brunt of the kicks and punches. <<<

Tell that KKJ not to worry too much for his Vietcong friends for soon, Sporns would becum the minority and he and his family would get it back from his FT "friends"!

My Top Tiger Spot!

Simon Owen Khoo, Tiger Airways Cabin Crew in Charge, shares his Ho Chi Minh City must-see: the War Remnants Museum (28 Vo Van Tan Street, District 3).
I grew up during the Vietnam War in the ’60s and ’70s, so when I think of Vietnam, I cannot help but think of her tragic past.
The War Remnants Museum is not a high-tech museum, but more of a photo-documentary of the ‘American War’, as it is known in Vietnam.
“US armoured vehicles, a helicopter and fighter jet are on display in the courtyard. In the galleries are collections of photos and documents. Shocking and moving, they show the Vietnamese side of the war – the one that most in the West have never seen.
“The suffering and tenacity of the Vietnamese people will help put your entire visit to Vietnam into perspective. The museum is a call for peace and an expression of the hope that history is not repeated.”

Will foreign born S'pore citizens and PRs ever be loyal to S'pore?

Is the S'pore govt spending tax payers' money wisely by giving out free scholarships to foreigners?

That is sinkie behavior... Period.

all the anger build up by those who cannot afford to go to uni due to monutary has all being uleashed out in that match.

this is not a bad start. but we need better and wider scale of activities to make the gov take care of its citizen even more

But some noted that the Vietnamese had repeatedly provoked the home fans as they left the stadium.
Said engineer S. Ravindran, 30: 'They were chanting, singing and celebrating right in front of the Singaporeans. One of them even flashed obscene gestures.'

=> Good that the Malay bros decided that enuff is enuff!
