I mostly agree with you, except that:

• CSJ chose to publicize the request loudly, and implying that a refusal would be tantamount to betraying the 'opposition cause'
• He and / or Jufrie also insinuated that WP did not give them the courtesy of a reply to earlier approaches when in fact they did respond, just not in the way CSJ wanted.

Today, it was reported that KJ said that it was 90% certain RP (meaning him) would contest the BE.
That almost certainly means it is 100% that he will not contest.
