英国《卫报》此前报道称，哇集拉隆功于2016年12月登基。未成为国王前，哇集拉隆功曾先后有过三任妻子，但均以离婚告终。5月1日，泰国王室发称，哇集拉隆功决定册封他的皇室配偶苏提达·哇集拉隆功（Suthida Vajiralongkorn Na Ayudhya）将军为苏提达王后，她将拥有王室头衔和王室身份，泰国所有电视台于当天晚间都播出了国王的婚礼，但并未提及确切的成婚时间。
