Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) is expected to complete construction of the first KF-X fighter aircraft prototype by the first half of 2021 and conduct the first test flight of the platform a year later, South Korea's Defence Acquisition Programme Administration (DAPA) confirmed in a 26 September statement.
DAPA said that the critical design phase of the aircraft has now been completed, allowing the KF-X/IF-X project, which stands for Korean Fighter eXperimental/Indonesian Fighter eXperimental, to move on to the next phase: prototype construction.
Development of the single-seat, twin-engined, multirole aircraft began in January 2016, with the preliminary design of the KF-X being finalised in June 2018. Production work on the first prototype began in February 2018, with KAI announcing at the time that it had started manufacturing the aircraft's bulk head.
As Jane's reported, the KF-X development programme envisages the production of six prototypes, followed by four years of trials and the completion of development by mid-2026. Serial production of the aircraft will take place during 2026-32, with an initial 120 units intended to replace the Republic of Korea Air Force's (RoKAF's) ageing fleets of F-4E Phantom and F-5E Tiger II aircraft.
Total production is expected to exceed 350 units, including a quota for exports.
Indonesia is currently renegotiating its involvement in the programme, although Jakarta remains committed to honouring its payment obligations set out under a 2015 financial agreement.
Under this original agreement, which is now subject to renegotiation, Indonesia committed to paying for 20% of the total development costs, which are estimated at about USD8 billion. The South Korean government would pay for 60% of the development programme, with prime contractor KAI covering the remaining 20%.
KAI's industry partner on the project is PT Dirgantara Indonesia.

Kim chi bu really arming themselves up

They want aircraft carrier, SLBM from their Chang Bogo/Type 214 derived subs, AEGIS equipped destroyers got from theirs yankee masters, THAAD, F-35 and up to 350 KF-X, K2 MBT, K9 SPH, Hyunmoo Ballistic and Cruise missiles.

A full fledged blue water navy by next decade.

Indons working with Kim chi bu for a share of their KF-X tech transfer. Apparently Kimchis look down on Indon. But look up to Jewish Israeli Swedish and other ang mor.

Maybe Malaysia can join Turks in their TF-X venture, 100 MF-X for Malaysia, 300 TF-X for Turkey, 300 TF-X for Pakistan, That's 700 5th gen fighter jet. 100 QF-X for Qatar. 50 AF-X for Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan can also lease another 100 AF-X fighters from the brother countries in the consortium. From Turkey/Malaysia/Pakistan/Qatar.

Wonder why Indons don't join this consortium? Pakis should join Turks, Qatar, Malaysia, Indonesia, Azerbaijan. That would be bigger and stronger and more cohesive than ASEAN can ever be. ASEAN = 650m+ population. This TF-X/MF-X/PF-X/QF-X/AF-X, let's call it FF-X fighter consortium, could include more ppl.

Nuclear powered subs, nuclear powered aircraft carriers, all on the cards. Swarm UAV anti-drone jamming tech, laser, AI, cybersecurity, hydrogen bombs. Anti sat missiles. This all are needed.

Pakistan Turkey Malaysia Indonesia Azerbaijan Qatar.

That's 600+ m people. Almost same as ASEAN.

But much more advanced than ASEAN militarily. More powerful than ASEAN militarily. More advanced than ASEAN in sci/tech for the most part.

Work with Kim Chi where it's favourable. Got some good lobang liao.

If Iran were not a shia sectarian rabid mullah-o-cracy, Iran has some serious potential that could have been harnessed for this alliance. It would be a lot bigger than ASEAN.

It's either Turks under Erdogan who will have to go for ICBM and hydrogen bombs.

Or it's never going to be done.

Turks won't get a leader of Erdogan's calibre in the next 4 decades looking at the oppos and erdogan's possible successors.

Count the entire OIC, you have got more ppl than either chinks or Ah Nehs. That's a huuuuuuuuge block with immense potential right there.

Got to start small with a more cohesive group of core countries at first.

As far as I am concerned all Islamic republics are entitled to be nuclear-capable and nuclear-armed to protect themselves against Western aggressors.

I think Iran got it.

Who could have believed Iran, under the most stringent sanctions, embargo and isolation, only comparable to North Korea has developed and produced a long range high altitude SAM system like Bavar 373?

Pskistan is nuclear capable, but dirt poor.

Never mind being dirt poor for survival as a sovereign nation is of the utmost importance. Imagine if Iran or North Korea has only outdated conventional weapons, they would long have been attacked by the USA and her allies under some pretext and there will be a change of regime installed with their puppets. History has taught us many valuable lessons.
