The decomposing body of Ms Tan Lay Lan, 39, was found in the flat at Block 38 Chai Chee Avenue on July 19 last year after a neighbour complained of a strong stench. At a coroner's inquiry into her death on Tuesday, the court heard that the freelance masseur, who was strangled, lived alone. She was last seen alive at Pending Road on July 16 evening, drinking beer at a pavilion in front of Block 225 with an unknown man in his mid-30s. At about 1am, the couple boarded a Comfort taxi and alighted along Bedok North Avenue 1. The cabby saw them walking towards Chai Chee Avenue. According to the cabby, the man was reeking of alcohol. Blood stains found in the flat sent for DNA analysis failed to generate DNA profile. Ms Tan's mobile phone was missing. State Coroner Eddy Tham said he believed that Ms Tan had been strangled, and recorded a verdict of murder by an unknown person.
