As part of the trial, 100 Coinjar Swipe cards were today distributed to pre-registered CoinJar members.

The card, which was created with pre-payment provider emerchants, will allow the members to withdraw from their bitcoin account at any ATM or at any retail outlet, the company said. All bitcoin withdrawals will be converted to Australian dollars.

Around 500,000 Australians currently use bitcoin, the company said.

Coinjar has processed more than $50 million worth of the currency in the past 12 months for more than 30,000 customers.

"We created Swipe because we simply wanted to make it easier for our customers to spend their bitcoin," CoinJar CEO Asher Tan said.
