Kaohsiung airport battling flea threat
2015/03/01 18:29:05

Kaohsiung, March 1 (CNA) Kaohsiung International Airport is battling a flea attack that may have resulted from the renovation of its departure lobby, airport director Chu Yao-kuang (朱耀光) said Sunday.
The airport has asked its cleaning service provider to strengthen the disinfection of its facilities following reports from many airport workers of being bitten by fleas over the past three weeks, Chu said.
The flea attacks may be the result of the renovation of the departure lobby that began in late 2014 to expand the waiting area for passengers, said Chu, who also pointed to stray dogs wandering around the airport's parking lot as another potential source of the problem.
The overhaul of the departure lobby will take about three more months to complete.
The number of passengers on international flights handled by Kaohsiung International Airport has increased steadily in recent years, rising 10.8 percent in 2012 and 6.5 percent in 2013 before surging 23.3 percent last year to 4.2 million, according to the airport's website.
