Chao Hick Tin re-appointed as Judge of Appeal of Supreme Court

SINGAPORE - Mr Chao Hick Tin has been re-appointed to sit as a Judge of Appeal of the Supreme Court for another two years, with effect from today.
President Tony Tan Keng Yam, acting in his discretion and with the advice of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, had re-appointed Mr Chao to the post.
Justice Chao took his affirmation of office at the Istana this afternoon.
Justice Chao was born in Singapore in 1942. He obtained his LL.B. from the University College of London in 1965, and was called to the Bar as a barrister of Middle Temple Inn in the same year.
He received his LL.M. from the University College of London in 1966, and was admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore in 1971.
Justice Chao began his career as a State Counsel in the Attorney-General's Chambers in 1967 and went on to serve as a Senior State Counsel from 1979 to 1987.
He was appointed Judicial Commissioner on Oct 1 1987, Judge of the Supreme Court on Nov 15 1990 and Judge of Appeal on Aug 2 1999.
On April 11 2006, he was appointed the Attorney-General of Singapore and he returned to the Supreme Court as a Judge of Appeal on April 11 2008.
In addition, Justice Chao also served as the President of the Industrial Arbitration Court from Sept 1 1993 to Aug 31 1999.
He was also previously the President of the ASEAN Law Association as well as the Chairman of the Singapore Mediation Centre. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
