Man hit by train; MRT services disrupted
by Claire Huang Jingyi
05:55 AM May 29, 2010
Southbound train services between Woodlands and Yishun MRT stations were disrupted for about an hour on Friday due to an incident on the track.

The SMRT said a man died after being hit by a train at Sembawang MRT Station at about 11.30am. The Singapore Civil Defence Force was called in at 11.37am to extricate the man from underneath the second carriage of the train.

To maintain service on unaffected stretches of the North-South Line, all southbound trains were turned around at Woodlands MRT Station. Some northbound trains were turned around at Yishun MRT Station. About 7,300 passengers were affected. Normal service resumed at 12.40pm.

To ease traffic, the SMRT deployed bus bridging services to ferry passengers between Woodlands and Yishun MRT stations during the disruption, said an SMRT spokesperson. Commuters who could not complete their journeys can claim a full fare refund from the Passenger Service Centre in any SMRT station, within the next three working days.

The SMRT is assisting the police in their investigations. CLAIRE HUANG

Spore is the Foxconn of developed nations
Yeah right! Like Foxconn, their immediate response is to recommend a small pay increment - 20% for Foxconn, half-month bonus & $300 lump sum awarded to low income earners ! will that stop the suicides?

A sweatshop is still a sweatshop but it It might reduce the numbers.

However in the case of Spore if they increase the pay, it would soon be followed up by increaases. That's why I think only way to improve things in Spore is to change the management of Spore Inc.

See Foxconn will increase 30% .

I was like asking Singapore to do the same .

But they increase like 1 percent and 30% for civil servants .

The rank n file civil servants wun get 30% pay increment n I tink e pay is just comparable to pte sector if nt lower;) if e bosses @ top r well paid, it doesn't translate to high pay for those below

Like this? :eek::eek::eek::eek:

These mrt station track "incidents" have only become common in recent years.
It may have started with the publicity after one man jumped several years ago. Donations started pouring in for his family.
Following that case, there were other "incidents", and subsequently, the press stopped reporting on the details of cases, on the deceased's name and on the details and circumstances of the family the deceased left behind.
For those cases where the deceased jumped, his thought process while he was deciding to jump has to be questioned. Did he ever consider that he was making things inconvenient for thousands of people? Or was he just keen to choose the fastest way to die and to hell with the inconvenienced people? Or did he think that there would be publicity and his family would receive donations?

I've been living in Vancouver, Canada for the past one year and am a regular commuter of their subway trains.
No special platform doors are put up in all their staions, and there has been no report of suicides or accidents
during the last twelve months.

On all train platforms in Vancouver, all we have is a yellow line, one foot away fom the edge of the platform.

If you and all S'poreans don't wanna be like me being a quitter from his own homeland, for God's sake vote out
the corrupt Lee Kuan Yew & his cronies.
