Man jailed for causing hurt

A MOTORIST who punched another over a parking incident at a shopping centre carpark was jailed for three weeks on Wednesday.
Royston Bai Jinda, 24, a sales promoter, admitted causing hurt to Mr Liaw Wie Sein, 37, at the carpark at Liang Court Shopping Centre, River Valley Road, on Aug 24 last year.
The court heard that Mr Liaw was trying to reverse his car into a lot when he moved his vehicle too close to Bai's.
Bai could not reverse his vehicle away from the victim's as there was a motorcycle behind him.
Both then horned at each other.
Mr Liaw continued to reverse into his lot.
After he had parked his car, Bai drove infront of the victim's car and stared at the victim, who stared back.
Hand gestures were exchanged. Both alighted and during a dispute, Bai turned aggressive and threw punches at the victim's face. The victim retaliated.
Among Mr Liaw's injuries were a small cut on the back of his right hand and a broken nose.
Bai's lawyer Ang Sin Teck said his client thought that the victim had shown him a dirty sign.
District Judge Jill Tan said even if the victim actually pointed the middle finger at him, it was no excuse for Bai to punch the victim more than once.
Bai could have been jailed for up to two years and/or fined up to $5,000.
