Dear Madam,
I saw you on TV and how you spoke about Singapore having an unemployment rate of 2%, I do not know how this statistic or measurement is done, but maybe you can provide the actual measurements used ?
The reason is simple, there are many Singaporeans who are jobless (30+) and up, who find that their jobs have been REPLACED by the influx of cheap labor, and maybe you could actually provide the breakdown of the number of working foreigners we have in Singapore, and we can make the assumption that with every foreigner, one Singaporean is displaced or is jobless, based on the total population count of actual SINGAPOREANS (Singaporeans does not include PR mind you)
It also seems that your foreign worker argument is flawed and incorrect as you stood all high and mighty to speak. This is because SM Goh made a recent comment about Quote “ S’pore must reduce dependency on foreign labour: SM Goh” unquote this link can be found below.
The strange thing is that why did the PAP not think of increasing productivity, by enhancing technology, but instead chose to rely on the mass import of cheap foreign labor?
Madam Josephine, you also went on to say that companies will shut down and move away, if we close our doors to foreigners. I think your mentality is rather extreme, what Singaporeans want is a Singaporean first policy for Singaporeans.
Why does the government not provide incentives for companies to automate and enhance productivity for Singaporeans?
With the millions of CPF monies that Temasek and GIC have lost over the years, resulting in money leaking out of our economy, why don’t we use this money for the proposed investments.
Why did the PAP wait for Singaporeans to be jobless and broke before talking about “productivity?”
Is the PAP really sincere in taking Singaporeans forward?
After having a freehand at managing the countries assets for so many years, Singaporeans are poorer and in debt, but you claimed we are better off?
It seems the PAP is out of touch with the ground, and I can’t blame you because you have never had to worry about your job, money, housing or medical benefits.
With this election, me and my family are voting for the opposition because, the PAP does not know what is going on in Singapore, and with that the PAP can never take Singaporeans forward.
Madam Josephine, if you care for Singaporeans, can you do us all a favor and ask MM Lee to edit or censor his HARD TRUTH statements that are against the interest of Singaporeans?
I take it you prefer to turn the other way, just like the rest of your PAP members, or do you agree with his statements?

By right., The stastitic should be done like this.
What are the total citizen working age. eg 22~65 year old.
1. How many are working?
2. How many are really retired/no really want to find job/work?
3. From the figre 1&2 minus total working age we can get the actual jobless.

So by the figure above we can calculate the actual jobless %

But are employers willing to spend more on automation when end of the day after doing the sum game, it is still better off relying on cheaper labor. After all the gov is not about to go round pointing a gun at each labor intensive employers to automate. What SM Goh means is:

Sounds perfect in theory but reality doesn't work the same way.

No enterprise or organisation is going to increase productivity as long as foreign labour is cheap and plentiful.

Productivity gains can only be achieved when the "cheap labour" option is removed from the equation. Companies are then forced to innovate or die. That's how it works in countries that have a minimum wage law in place.

Unfortunately for Singapore, many companies have an alternative to "innovating" and that is simply to pack up and leave. This is due to Singapore's lack of a sizeable domestic market and could well lead to a disastrous downward spiral from which there is no return.

The govt tried to move Singapore to a high wage economy in the mid 80s when companies were less mobile than they are today. The results were disaster. It has never dared to apply the same formula again. It knows what the outcome will be.

Cheap labour is going to be around for a long time to come.
