An engaged couple, set to be married in a month, was arrested at 1:30am in a hotel room in Kluang, Johor, by the Johor Islamic Religious Department (JAINJ).
They were allegedly engaging in “khalwat” (a religious offence where two people of the opposite sex are in close proximity in a private or secluded place).
Both the man and woman are in their 20s, with the man staying in Kluang.
According to their Facebook post, JAINJ knocked on the hotel room door, and the woman took a few minutes to answer.
The post said the woman claimed she was the only one in the room, but the officer found a man hiding under a table.
The woman had come to the state to meet with her future in-laws before their wedding.
The wedding was to be held in a month.
The post posited that the couple had decided to stay in the hotel room as this would be the last time they saw each other before the marriage.
It added that the couple had decided to give a "test drive" on each other, even though the relationship had yet to become "halal".
They also described the hotel room as a mess.
