Johor collects $900,000 traffic fines from Sinkies in operation

Police collected about RM2.4 million (S$903,00) via 15,470 traffic summonses through a special operation that focussed on foreign-registered vehicles.

State police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said Ops Saman was held between Dec 27 and Jan 1.

"The operation was done together with Bukit Aman, focussing on several areas within the district as well as Gelang Patah," he told reporters at the Johor police headquarters here yesterday.

"During the period, we conducted checks on 13,529 foreign-registered vehicles," he said.

On another matter, Comm Mohd Mokhtar said police detained 22,615 people of whom 8,386 were charged for offences throughout the Ops Cantas Khas last year.
Police also arrested 349 criminals besides seizing weapons that included 19 pistols, 48 imitation firearms, 14 air rifles, three home-made weapons, 4,551 bullets and 557 other dangerous weapons as well.

"In 2014, police nabbed 62 people between the ages of 20 and 55 years for being involved in secret societies, murders, armed robberies and prostitution under the Prevention of Crime Act."
