M'sian man, 47, who chained wife up & dismembered her has death sentence appeal dismissed
Dismissed
A Sarawak-based pharmacist, Wong Zing Haw, had his appeal against his death sentence dismissed.
The Court of Appeal found his actions to be calculated, cruel, and devoid of humanity.
Wong, 47, had been sentenced to death in 2020 for the murder of his wife, Yang Xi.
It was also the manner in which he murdered his wife that provoked public consternation.
According to New Straits Times, the man had chained his wife to a bed, killed her, and then chopped up her body using knives, saw blades and a cleaver.
He then allegedly dumped the body parts in various locations.
A handwritten list of body parts was found in his notebook.
It read as such:
"legs x2, head x1, hands x1, shoulder bone x5, pelvic x1, organ x1."
This allegedly corresponded with the dismembered parts.
Her severed head was eventually found by some anglers on a riverbank.
Daughter saw mother chained
According to China Press, the man's daughter said during the trial that she saw her mother chained to the bed, unresponsive. She had called out for her mother to no avail. That was the last time she saw her.
The three-member bench wrote that the circumstantial evidence leads to an "undeniable conclusion" that Wong had murdered his wife.
One of the members called the act gruesome and said the woman's death had "deprived those children of the care and love that a mother can provide for many years".
They dismissed his appeal and concluded that they found "no reasons" to revisit the findings.
