Following reports regarding long queues and congestion at the customs, immigration and quarantine (CIQ) complex, the Chief Minister of Johor, Onn Hafiz Ghazi, visited the CIQ to see the conditions on the ground.
In a Facebook post on Mar. 9, Onn Hafiz stated that the problems at CIQ were caused by glitches in the M-Bike system for motorcyclists at Malaysia's entry and exit points.
In addition, a server caught on fire and disrupted the e-gate system.
As a result of the two issues, immigration officers had to be deployed to the manual M-Bike counters, which caused a shortage of officers at the car counters.
Onn added that he contacted Malaysia's Home Affairs Minister to discuss the problems.
He ended his Facebook post with, "God willing, the issues in both CIQ BSI and KSAB will be resolved shortly".
According to the New Straits Times on Mar. 6, motorcyclists had to wait hours to clear immigration, and there were long queues at both CIQs.
