PARIS: Fashion designer Kenzo Takada, founder of the global Kenzo brand, died at the age of 81 in Paris on Sunday after contracting COVID-19, his spokesman said.
Takada, the first Japanese designer to gain prominence in the highly-competitive Paris fashion scene, died in the American Hospital of Paris, the spokesman said in a statement.
Kenzo is a French luxury fashion house founded in 1970 by Takada and owned by parent company LVMH. It is a a worldwide brand of perfumes, skincare products and clothes.
Takada resigned as the brand's creative director in 1999. It is currently being run by Felipe Oliveira Baptista.
News of Takada's death comes a day after Kenzo showed its spring/summer 2021 collection at Paris Fashion Week.
