Japanese AV actresses caught engaging in prostitution in HK, charging HK$12,000 per hour at Admiralty hotel

10th July 2023 – (Hong Kong) Last October, the Hong Kong police busted a prostitution ring in Yau Tsim Mong and arrested a Japanese AV actress during the operation. A recent investigation by local media “Sing Tao Daily” revealed that Hong Kong has become a popular destination for Japanese AV actresses seeking work outside of Japan, after the Middle East, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Taiwan. A journalist was successful in contacting a middleman who arranges for Japanese AV actresses to come to Hong Kong and observed how they operate to make money.
The middleman, known as Wong was contacted by the journalist through a social media platform. He claimed to be a Malaysian Chinese who speaks fluent Japanese due to his previous studies in Japan, and has connections with many Japanese AV companies and actresses. During the conversation, Xiao Huang continuously sent pictures of AV actresses, including those who are leading actresses in the industry, and offered to arrange for clients to meet them if they are interested.
The journalist managed to contact Wong in person, who introduced a popular Japanese AV actress called Remi to him. The hourly fee for Remi’s service was HK$12,000, but Wong emphasised that she used to be a leading actress and showed many of her AV covers claiming that she usually charged over HK$20,000 per hour in Hong Kong. However, this time she was in Hong Kong for a semi-work, semi-travel trip, so the price was more affordable. Xiao Huang even sent records of a client who paid HK$36,000 to prove that he had given her a discount. The journalist arranged to meet Wong the next evening at a café in a five-star hotel in Admiralty and made the transaction.
However, Wong called the journalist suddenly and asked him to come to the hotel that night instead because Remi had received a reservation from a client in Mainland China and would leave for Shenzhen the next day. The journalist went to the hotel before 11pm and contacted Wong in the lobby. Wong gave the room number and asked the journalist to go to the room and pay Remi directly after confirming her identity. The journalist knocked on the door and saw Remi in person. She made a gesture asking the journalist to enter the room quietly. Although the lighting was dim, the journalist was able to identify her features, including her plump lips, and confirmed that it was indeed Remi, proving that Japanese AV actresses have come to Hong Kong to engage in prostitution.
The journalist communicated with Remi through gestures and simple English. Remi took out her phone and entered the total of HK$ 12,000 and opened her Instagram page for the journalist to verify her identity. When the journalist asked why she was leaving Hong Kong so soon, Remi said Wong had arranged for her to work in Shenzhen. When the journalist asked more questions, Remi began to act impatiently and demanded the journalist pay her. The journalist used the excuse of not feeling not suitable and said he would call Wong before leaving the room.
The AV industry is not doing well, and actresses have to take up other jobs to make ends meet. In Japan, thousands of AV films are produced each year, and apart from superstar actresses, most second- and third-tier actresses may not participate in an AV shooting every month and only earn JPY 100,000 or less (equivalent to about HK$5,500). Some of them work part-time as hostesses or engage in prostitution in Japan or abroad.
The police in Hong Kong are highly concerned about the situation of Japanese AV actresses coming to Hong Kong to engage in prostitution and have been cracking down on illegal activities. From January to May of this year, the police have conducted multiple anti-vice operations, arresting 445 people, including 62 foreigners, for offences such as “soliciting others for immoral purposes,” “operating a vice establishment,” and “breaching conditions of stay.” The police will continue to carry out intelligence-led operations in collaboration with other relevant government departments and law enforcement agencies in Mainland China and overseas to combat related crimes.
