Creative Wants To Ban Most Android Phones From US Over Alleged Patent Infringement

Creative is not a name you hear as often in consumer electronics these days. The Singapore-based firm is known for making audio products, including the Zen line of media players. Creative has filed a complaint with the US International Trade Commission (ITC) alleging that basically every maker of Android phones is infringing its Zen patents by displaying your music. It wants them all banned, but what it really wants is money.


The complaint targets ZTE, Sony, Samsung, LG, Lenovo, Motorola, HTC, and BlackBerry. At issue is how everyone shows you songs and albums in a hierarchical menu system, which Creative says it invented. It went after Apple for the same thing a decade ago and eventually got a $100 million settlement. If the ITC agrees with Creative, it could lead to a ban on infringing devices, which would be a lot of phones.

This probably isn't the sort of patent that can be designed around. Creative is banking on some targets of the action just paying up to license the patents rather than risk having products blocked from the US. However, the ITC takes a long time to act. There might not be any impact for years.

Sansung and Apple has been suing each other off , accusing each other as thief. When you are found a thief, you pay for it and that settle it. Nothing personal , nothing Vindictive. It's just the way business work. Suing each other in court is just another strategy to stifle rival company's development.

Creative started this line of suing people with apple over their original Ipod interface. Its sad they can only get $$ now not by selling products but suing companies.

sim must be broke and desperate,from being a billionaire back in 2000 to being worth less than 100mil in 2013,that is a sad sight indeed.after all these years this is probably the best idea he came up with to make money.

come to think of it,i dont recall a single PAP lackey whose driven a multi billion dollar company into the ground as badly as sim wong hoo.....sim wong hoo should apply for PAP membership and become the minister of trade and industry.

At least He squandered away HIS OWN company and wealth which HE STARTED and BUILT.
He saboed no one but his shareholders. Unlike vile pappies such as whore jinx.
On hindsight he should have sold out at the peak or went in the direction of being Apples OEM manufacturer......now mould still huat big time
