malls are dead. even vallco the biggest mall in the heart of sexpensive cupertino cannot survive. at its height, vallco was swarmed with middle and upper middle class shoppers in the 80s and 90s when millennials were still in wombs and bassinets. i still remember going there for a jap-themed seafood buffet but had to wait in line for 69 minutes as it was that popular among sillycon valley residents. now the entire mall is under mr. jack hammer and his wrecking ball. old residents like me don't go there anymore as we prefer open outdoor malls such as stanford shopping center and or santana row where retirees can walk their dogs and dine outdoors alfresco style. millennials don't go to malls anymore (they get dragged to them by their parents while they were still young) and are now buying things online and have packages delivered to their homes, which not surprisingly in super sexpensive sillycon valley are their parents' homes.
