Japan is a very stressful country. They worked like slave. The corporate hierarchy is steep, though the workers are generally polite and hardworking, they have to put on a mask to conceal their unhappiness and put on a fake smile. They must compressed their feeling of stress, otherwise is seen as weakling. Thus you see them enjoying the finest things in life when given the chance to let out their emotions. Even a ground of weeds would stunt them and make them feel loved and happy. As a country without "foreign talent" interference, they live a quiet life, learn to be productive and often as a result, able to think out of the box and came out with new inventions (including preparation of simple foods) that wow-ed the world. Such constant success and self-achievement, gave them the supreme mentality among other human races. In contrast, Singapore do not have productivity drive, due to easy access of cheap labour. Our stress and depression is a completely different animal, from those of Japanese work stress. Their stress is how to make Japanese and Japan great. Our stress is how to survive and make ourselves great. Our education is largely based on obedient to the higher up, and memorise textbooks to achieve scholarship. In the hope that someday PAP will take notice and throw you a crumbs for being obedient and academically "successful" - aka the PAPER GENERAL. There is no longer any loyalty here, unlike Japanese. Japanese love Japan, we hate PAP and often construed as hating Singapore. Sad!

It really depends on upbringing. Even small-small things like being polite to the cleaner and the waiter etc.

The bad thing about a meddling and micromanaging interventionists nanny state is that few will survive the social programming and eventually turned into robots who obey 'authority' and lack initiative that comes natural to those who weren't programmed this way.
What about jw5? What is he lacking?

Actually does this Japanese realise half the people in this country are not the same people in this country fifteen years ago?

They for lack of a better word are Baka gaijins like him.

Every night some of the sha-in (employee) likes to cry when having a 'happy hour' drink. They are the 'pressure cooker' letting out steam when relaxing (crying with tears) after work. Chinese saying "We, men only cry when our Father dies, not before".

They also let out steam on women. Japanese men are well known for being a womaniser and pornography expert. Like I said, after work, all emotions & cum start to let loose. Now you understand why Japanese lead a very pressurable life followed by pleasurable life thereafter.

When working, work hard. When playing, play hard. Good ethics.

Before ronald reagan forced japan to take saturday off, children never get the chance to see their father as sunday is golfing day with the bosses.
The term invincible father only applies in japan as father leaves for work early and return only after children slept.
And their work culture despise anyone taking a holiday or going home from work early.

Not only despise, in fact they look down on anyone going home early after work as sort of a failure, even their own wives cannot accept a husband at home early. The neighbours will talk about it too. So, the sha-in will help each other out by organising almost every night. If one have guests, they will try to include their buddies in any gatherings. Or if the guests is too tired and gone back to the hotel, they will rendezvous on in another venue with the bill given to the Company, all just to avoid going home early.
