Tokyo: The Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Ministry will launch demonstration experiments in fiscal 2011 to develop new technology that can produce methane gas from sewage sludge at low cost and in a stable manner. Ministry officials said the new technology is expected to promote the use of sewage sludge as an energy source and help contribute to the fight against global warming.
The experiment will involve constructing a plant to produce methane gas by efficiently fermenting sewage sludge and purifying the product, as well as a facility to process the sludge remnant into solid fuel after the gas is taken out. The production of methane gas from sewage sludge is already under way in such places as Kobe, where a gas station built alongside a sludge disposal plant fills motor vehicles powered by natural gas. But the existing technology is inefficient and costly.
When can SG be smarter and stop abusing its own people?
