Footballing prodigy Takefusa Kubo, dubbed the 'Japanese Messi', has been snapped up by the club who boast the original Lionel Messi.

According to reports in Spain, Barcelona moved after being impressed by his performances at a football school they ran in Yokohama.

He had already shot to prominence when videos of him tricking his way past one defender after another appeared online, though for a long time his identity was unknown.

Sport, the Spanish newspaper, report that Kubo's family have moved to Barcelona, and though he does not live at their La Masia academy he comes in daily to train, and has already begun to feature in youth level games.

Kubo, who is known as 'Take' in Catalonia, is the first Japanese player on the European champions' books.

Whether he goes on to make the first team in the fullness of time remains to be seen, but you can admire his skills in the blue and red shirt in the video above.
