Japan-bound aid supplies delayed
By Hetty Musfirah Abdul Khamid | Posted: 17 March 2011 1725 hrs
SINGAPORE: Plans by the Singapore Red Cross to deliver the first batch of aid supplies to victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan have been delayed.
The Japanese Embassy in Singapore had alerted the organisation that the Japanese Government is not ready to receive the aid for now.
But donations to relief efforts continue to pour into Japan, reaching nearly S$804,000.
The amount does not include the S$500,000 pledged by the government of Singapore.
Meanwhile, the outpouring of donations continues, with more than 400 individual donors turning up at the Red Cross' premises in Penang Lane since Monday.
