The former show host (iirc his co-host was a Filipina by the name of Lauretta Alabons), VR Man and Inspector Mike Chin (Triple Nine) has done well indeed.

“Banking with Standard Chartered is about empowerment. It allows clients to live borderless lives—with wealth that moves as freely as they do—and meaningful connections that enrich a client’s lifestyle, family journey and global ambitions.” - James Lye

He is now Global and Singapore International Banking head at Standard Chartered Bank

When he was at the height of his popularity with Mediacorp, he struck when the metal was hot and milked the entertainment industry for all that it was worth while staying grounded 脚踏实地 the entire time. When he sensed that the fickle entertainment industry was starting to move on to newer, younger and better looking artistes, he left showbiz and went into banking, first with Citibank then with Stanchart, falling back on his first-class honours degree from Arizona State University.

Was he initially with Wong Li Lin, but things didn't work out, then Diana Ser came along?

Smart guy with brains, brawn, good looks and great bod. Those in the entertainment industry should be like that: know when the industry has moved on, then carve out a second career somewhere else outside the entertainment circle instead of stubbornly hanging around like a stick-in-the-m&d. Another good example is Yvonne Lim's husband, Taiwanese boy band ex-member Alex Tien. 脚踏实地 and Alex is now a businessman, husband and father of two. *clap clap*

Once he was VR Man and now James Lye is the Moneyman.

James has definitely fared way WAY better than Allan Wu. Wonder if Wong Li Lin ever had any regrets that she and James never ended up together. Oh well.

Sour grapes?
Not sour grapes. U read alot in shity times quite a few mediacorpse actresses and actors without any financial background suddenly being employed as wealth managers and vice presidents etc to advise in financial investments for the ultra high net worths. Some don't even have a uni degree. On what basis do u employ them jokers and give them the task of advising on investment in complex financial products??? Most are clueless and all they have is just a pretty face. Walk into any top investment banks at marina bay and u know what im meant.
Like they say money talks and BS walks

These former actors dont need to have degree or knowledge. Just ask the rich client "coffee, tea or me" steamed immediately invest millions lol.

It is the same with former SQ female flight attendants who are hired by pharmaceutical companies to sell medications to doctors; the specialists in private practice are mostly males.

When James was at Amex, he was well-liked by his colleagues though they found him boring. He was down to earth, unassuming and didn't play politics. Not the sharpest tool in the shed, though. Everyone knew he couldn't act to save his life, so Mediacorp was just a phase in his life.

Anyway, all credit to him. Hard work and good interpersonal skills got him to where he is today. (Wong Li Lin left him for the philandering Allan Wu; she probably regrets it now.)

Singapore's first ever local boy band Echo Boys. The band consisted of 3 members.

They had a few good years. They were popular, had many gigs, girls went ga ga over them. But like everything else in the entertainment industry, the world started moving on to newer, fresher and younger acts.

They were eventually disbanded and the other 2 members of Echo Boys moved on with their lives to finish their studies and go into other careers, perhaps also occasionally fondly re-living their Echo Boys band days with their kids and friends and colleagues.

Only this ah boy is still left and still hanging on to his Echo Boys glory days still trying to eke out a living in the entertainment industry:
