SHAMED: Former teacher Jeremy Forrest was jailed in June [GETTY]

Jeremy Forrest hit the headlines last year when he and his schoolgirl lover fled to France to be together.

In June, Forrest was jailed for five and a half years for abducting the female pupil.

The schoolgirl, who can not be named for legal reasons, originally claimed she was committed to her former teacher.

It was believed that the pair would resume their controversial relationship after Forrest had served his prison sentence, but the girl has since given him the boot for a boy of her own age.

Speaking to the Sunday Mirror, friends of the abducted girl claim that the pressure of media speculation and being separated from Forrest is putting too heavy a strain on their relationship.

The schoolgirl told friends " It's become too much, trying to have a relationship with someone I can't see or talk to."

"It's too hard to carry on with the relationship."

CAUGHT: Forrest and his victim were escorted back from France [GETTY]

Keen to explain her decision to Forrest, the schoolgirl intends to talk to the disgraced teacher in an attempt to explain the reasoning behind her decision.

The illegal affair caused a huge rift in the schoolgirl's family, her desperate mum pleading with her to see sense and separate from Forrest.

Upon deciding to end her relationship with the incarcerated educator, the schoolgirl has been able to patch things up with her mother, even moving back into the family home.

“Jeremy is naturally devastated. He's really upset, but he half expected this to happen while he was in prison”

Her elated mother told the source: "I'm so, so glad my daughter is back where she belongs."

"Now, I want her to go on and enjoy the things any girl her age would."

The schoolgirl's mum was distraught when Forrest abducted her little girl and implored her daughter to come home and cut ties with the teacher.

"I've longed for her to move on. I'm delighted there has been no contact between my daughter and Jeremy Forrest."

Undoubtedly wary about her daughter's new boyfriend, the concerned mother revealed that the pair have been dating for a while.

"I've met her new boyfriend quite a few times now. I like him a lot and hope they can settle down and enjoy being in a relationship together."

The relationship breakdown will come as quite a blow for Jeremy Forrest, it has been reported the teacher wanted to marry his former pupil.

JUSTICE: Forrest was sentenced to five and a half years in prison [GETTY]

Although social workers banned the schoolgirl from visiting her former lover, the schoolgirl kept in constant close contact with Forrest's mother and father.

The schoolgirl allegedly wept when she broke the news of her decision to his mum, Julie, 57.

Forrest was informed of the split by his father, Jim, 60, while on a prison visit.

A source close to the Forrest family has revealed "Jeremy is naturally devastated. He's really upset, but he half expected this to happen while he was in prison."

Support workers and social care professionals continue to offer support and guidance to the girl following her ordeal.
