AN ACCOUNTANT who had paid sex with a teenage prostitute from China was jailed for two weeks and fined a total of $16,000 on Tuesday.
Rodney Sim Hang Nge, 61, who has a son and a daughter, pleaded guilty last December to having sex with the 16-year-old girl by paying her $100 on each of two occasions on Aug 3 and 5 last year.
He was convicted under a new law that came into effect in February last year, making it a crime for anyone to engage in paid sex with a person under the age of 18. The maximum penalty is a seven-year jail term and a fine.
In November, the pimp who arranged for the teenager from China to prostitute herself here was jailed 12 months by the High Court after the prosecution appealed against his initial $8,000 fine.
Another man, renovation contractor Tan Chye Hin, 55, who appealed against his 12-month sentence for having sex with the same girl, had his sentence cut to nine months on appeal.
The court heard that the 16-year-old victim and another girl from China, aged 19, would sit with their pimps at a coffeeshop in Geylang to wait for customers.
On Aug 3 Sim was at the coffeeshop when the girl, who was with Wang Minjiang, 37, beckoned him over.
Sim asked how much she was charging for sex. Wang quoted $100. When Sim tried to bargain it down, Wang said the girl had just arrived from China and was 'different'' from others. Sim agreed to pay $100.
He drove her to a nearby hotel for sex. Two days later he had sex with her again and bought her a pre-paid card, fruit and gave her $30.
On Aug 6, he drove her and the other girl to the Chinese embassy and then to a police post to lodge a police report.
