England captain Harry Kane accused ITV journalist Gabriel Clarke of trying to create division within the team after Clarke questioned Jude Bellingham about manager Thomas Tuchel’s post-match comments. After the 2-1 World Cup quarter-final win over Norway, Bellingham was visibly frustrated by the journalist's phrasing of his manager's comments. Why does the UK press like to create division and why is this a common behaviour in the English media during major tournaments. Shouldn't the press get behind the England national team?

In my opinion, the British press does not want England to fail at a major event like the World Cup. A winning run to the trophy is incredibly lucrative for media sales. However, ITV like the media in general, does want drama so creating a narrative of struggle, misunderstanding and even conflict is the easiest way to keep the entire country hooked to the drama.

It's not just sports. Many of those who work in the media are not journalists. They make news, not report it.

Not this time, since German Tommy T is the England manager now.

Expect the UK media jackals to crucify him if England doesn't win the World Cup.

And even if he wins the World Cup, they will say that's only because this England team is amazing, or England was lucky to be on the 'easier' side of the tournament bracket, and downplay his managerial nous. Expect a bit of sarcasm and backhanded compliments aimed at him too.

Watch and see. My prediction will come true.

Racist sentiments have been building up among some England fans who are demanding a team made up exclusively of white English players rather than the children of immigrants. This has to do with the debate over national identity. While the current English football team is multicultural and multi-ethnic like Britain, white supremacists reject this. When the team is winning, players like Bukayo Saka, Marc Guehi and Jude Bellingham are considered national heroes; when the team loses, they are seen as foreigners.

Even when France won the 1998 World Cup for the first time, a significant portion of French people, criticised the multi-ethnic nature of the squad. It was not a source of pride, but rather a target of criticism. The most vocal opposition came from the French far-right, led by Jean-Marie Le Pen, leader of the National Front In the lead-up to the tournament, Le Pen labeled the team "artificial" and claiming that players of immigrant backgrounds did not truly represent France.

Japanese football fans are far less racist, but Zion Suzuki whose father is from Ghana and whose mother is Japanese, endured some racial abuse from online trolls whenever he made mistakes when keeping goal for the national team.
