In the latest case of financial and criminal wrongdoing by a member of the Singapore Police Force (SPF), a senior officer from the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) was charged in court this morning for misappropriating $1.76 million between 2008 and last year.

Edwin Yeo Seow Hiong, 39, was the head of field research and technical support at CPIB when the Commercial Affairs Department (CAD) caught wind of his gambling activities in Marina Bay Sands (MBS) casino. Mr. Yeo was then suspended his duties at the CPIB amid an investigation into his suspected financial wrongdoings.

Once the news broke this morning, the Singapore government launch in damage control mode. Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has appointed an independent review panel to look at the possible lapses into the agency's audit system and financial procedures, while Deputy PM Teo Chee Hean (who is also the minister in charge of the Civil Service) called the case "particularly serious".

I also think this case is very serious.
I think it’s very serious because it took 10 months before Singaporeans knew about this case and that is way too long.

Also can't believe he's the only one....maybe he's the only one that got caught. Looks like in the past, all those who took monies got away scot free and happily enjoying their retirement!!

I'm happy with the fact that the authorities have taken the time to ensure that they have covered all angles before making the issue public.

It would be a travesty if they had jumped the gun and brought charges against someone before the groundwork was complete.

I would like to commend the government for being firm but fair.

The long duration is for covering up, not for investigating.

Aiyah, they want to check who the supervisor of his supervisor of his supervisor of his supervisor of his supervisor is first mah!

Integrity is expected from Opposition not from CPIB , CNB , SCDF , NEA , YOG comittee or Town Councils .....

You cant trust the polis not only from the front desk......also the CPIB:D

I hope the ministers will spend more time & passion to probe into this incident than arguing over nothing on ceiling cleaning. This is 1.7mil we're talking about. Ceiling cleaning how much nia?
Dont get me started on the YOG budget. that's a whole different laod of crock shite.

The problem/fault is always delegate(able) in the civil service. This is no bigger than
a Minister who "committed" suicide.

they can try this out:
find out who is the supervisor of his supervisor and get him or her to conduct an inquiry.
the results of the inquiry would be to punish or censure his supervisor.
or have they done this before already?

as for the supervisor of his supervisor of his supervisor and etc, life goes on, let's move on, let's learn from this, it was not an honest mistake, which toothpick do you prefer, what do you think, and the band played on..............................

You felt compelled to sing hosannas to the smear of shit on sole of shoe LKY & PAP maggots at every turn because without them, you and the rest of the world must share 50 families to one steel bucket to shit in

Other then spending the 10 months investigating this bugger, did they come up with any preventive measures?
