LKY was a lot smarter. Instead of fighting the Japs, he went with the flow while planning for the long term. His wisdom was spot on as history has shown that his strategy was the correct one.
LKY knew that left wing policies would take Singapore nowhere fast so he had no choice but to play hardball. Thank goodness he did. If it had not been for operation coldstore, Singapore would never have gone from 3rd world to 1st in one generation.
Had Nelson Mandela and his buddies “gone with the flow”, South Africans would still be living under apartheid. Going with the flow is not a virtue. In the case of LKY, it shows a mercenary and traitorous nature.
Singapore will thrive with or without LKY. By 1938, Singapore was already the most prosperous city in Southeast Asia. Thanks to the foresight of Sir Stamford Raffles, British RULE OF LAW and the hard work of hundreds of thousands of immigrants including the Chinese coolies, many of whom rose to become successful businessmen in their own right. This video shows that when LKY was only 15 and before he became a “go with the flow” Japanese collaborator and learned how to say “Banzai” and bow deeply like the stooge that he is, Singapore was already the financial and economic hub of Southeast Asia.

Many of the so-called left wing activists subsequently did very well economically in PAP's capitalist Singapore e.g. Tan Jing Quee, Lim Chin Siong’s brother, etc. This basically shows that left wing is nothing to be feared. In a resource scarce island, left wingers will ultimately find a way to work with capitalists and LKY and his Alibaba comrades can perform their function as the “loyal Opposition” to keep Barisan Socialis in check. What Operation Cold Store did was to rob the electorate of its right to choose between Barisan Socialis and Alibaba PAP. It was a grave SIN that cannot and should not be forgiven or forgotten!
Dutch economist, Albert Winsemius, and others will work with whoever was in charge of Singapore and we would have prospered as long as we are not stupid and lazy. A position at the crossroads of international sea routes is a natural asset that we, Singaporeans, own and will have no matter who is in charge. We just need to make sure that we don’t become stupid and lazy and most importantly have the guts to throw out whichever party happens to be in charge out of power should they at any time forget that they are elected “by the people for the people”. Or to put it bluntly, make that party REPENT.
