An IS terrorist (20) had to answer today at the Vienna Regional Court for criminal cases related to a terrorist organization. The then-17-year-old teenager worked for the radical Islamist terrorist militia “Islamic State” in 2019. He shared a total of 22 chats with radical Islamist content in various WhatsApp groups. He also exchanged views with people who had direct contact with the later assassin in Vienna who killed four people in downtown Vienna on November 2, 2020.

In addition, the accused held a meeting with like-minded people in his parents’ apartment in Vienna-Leopoldstadt. They heard and sang songs about cutting off the heads of unbelievers.

“We like to listen to music” – The lyrics were about striking off the heads of infidels

All not so dramatic, according to the defendant. In truth, everything was quite harmless. He only met up with friends for the so-called sugar festival, the Eid al-Fitr fast-breaking after the fasting month of Ramadan. “The intention was to eat cake and tiramisu,” the man said in his defense.

Regarding the radical Islamist songs, he said: “We just listened to it because we like listening to music.” He denied that he was supposed to have taken an oath of allegiance to IS during the course of this festival.

Both parties accepted the verdict

He wasn’t convicted for that either. Ultimately, the man, who has since turned his back on IS because of his own research, got away with 15 months in prison. The penalty was five years. He would have taken 18 months, but three of them were released due to the length of the proceedings. Both the public prosecutor and the accused accepted the verdict.
