Is there a future for young Singaporeans if one isn't an offspring of elite parents?

Parental connections with top management of top MNCs and top local companies seem to work wonders. The interview process seems to be like a go through the motion charade. Behind the scenes are maneuvers, justifying that so and so from elite families should be hired. Is this how things work in Singapore? Do young generation of Singaporeans who aren't from "connected" elite families have a future here?

Then there are the expatriate connections in MNCs. Westerners, Indians, Filipinos, etc. At the end of the day, the ordinary Singaporean who isn't from an elite family ranks at the bottom of the CV pile. Is this PAP's meritocracy?

No future.

This is why I encourage youngsters to study, work and live overseas. There is nothing in Sg for them.
Yep, my nephews and nieces are all abroad, some already working as doctor in Aust, another two studying in UK and will probably not be back. It's no point coming back here to become 2nd class citizens and also tio NSmen ICTs. I always tell them got opportunity abroad, dont come back. Just come back as tourist and visit yoir parents a few times a year can already.

Foreigners have created so many good jobs for Sinkies. Security guards, food delivery, cleaning services. The future looks very good.

Go to a less developed country like Laos or Cambodia, study the lifestyles of the population there, and you'll find many business opportunities there. Opportunities arise when you can come up with practical solutions to the various problems. Rather than stuck here in this tiny little shithole, venture out and create something for yourself.

Dear Mr Shyguy, the insignificant nobody me would differ with your rather.pessimistic views. Spore is a land of opportunity for all citizens since our independence, thanks to the efforts, hardwork & sacrifices by our great founders & forefathers.

Mr Tang was only a door to door salesman selling trinkets. He save up money, saw opportunities & seized them & build the great CK Tang empire. He wasn't the only one. There were many others. There were NOT members of any elite.

As the World progresses, so too opportunities & the methods to seize them, honestly & legally. Creative Tech founder was one of them. Peter Lim, our Billionaire, was another. They were not elites.

In the biz world, proven trust & accountability is important for a company's survival in the free market, thus son's & daughters of elites are given headstarts, BUT ultimately, it is RESULTS that counts.

Those who don't produce such are replaced, elite or not. And there lays the chance for everyone-prove your worth & you will be in top mgmt based upon merit, like so many other fellow citizens proven for decades-kids of taxi drivers, hawkers, etc in Spore.

Only you alone can decide for yourself - to be a whinner who blames everyone else & circumstances, never taking stock of oneself, OR be an achiever like most other Singaporeans whom are gainfully employed & rising to the top by hardworking & intelligence.

When service to the country means demanding for the highest salary in the political world, you already know what it means-no money no talk.
What meritocracy....more like moneyocracy .
Just ask what is HC's salary

Losers should regret not studying hard in school when young. Their kids are being punished for their parents' sins.
