A STOMPer sent in these pictures of posters advertising the show ‘Californication’ and was taken aback by the advisory warning that came with the ads.
The STOMPer was shocked that the ‘Department of Appropriate Behaviour’ should put up public notices, discouraging the public from watching the show.
In an email sent to STOMP yesterday (Nov 4), the STOMPer wrote:
“Recently, I saw these warning posters stuck over FX advertisements of the TV shows 'Californication' 'The Riches' and 'Mad Men' all over Singapore.
“When I took a closer look, I found out these posters are from the Department of Appropriate Behaviour and from what I can see it says:
“’As this television programme conflicts with our moral standards, the public is hereby discouraged from CALIFORNICATION.’
“This is too much. I can't believe this. Californication is one of my favourite TV shows!
“Who are these people? Could this be yet another newly formed Government Body? Isn't there enough censorship going on in Singapore already?”
Well, we have the answer. This is an advertisement for a new television programme, and similar ads have been sprouting up all over the place, in the Straits Times and various SPH publications, to television.
