Is the COE system the best way to allocate limited road space in S'pore?

The govt's stand is that the COE system is the most transparent way to allocate limited road space in a dense city like S'pore. An open market auction prices the right to own a car to those who value it most and are willing to pay the market price. The billions of dollars collected every year are supposedly used to subsidise and upgrade public transport, healthcare, education and defence, benefiting most S'poreans who do not own a car. What are your views on the COE system?

If the stupid motorists are willingly prepared to give the gahmen $1b COE money per month…then it is the bestest system to allocate limited road space.

Nothing to do with 'allocating space', it's just a quick cash grab by a robber.

This should be obvious to anyone who is smart enough to not see the PAP regime as some benevolent parent figure or problem solver.

It is difficult to put a price on comfort and convenience. Those who cannot afford a car and its COE are not even in the race to buy one. For the remaining people, they have to decide what other expenses need to be cut down in order to buy that much prized car.

Legalised plunder is what the SG govt is extremely good at.

COE premiums pour over $1 billion into the PAP's coffers every month for doing nothing.

It is not only the COE factor.

Take for example …Sealion7 on the road price in Australia is S$42,000 equivalent, Price of Sealion7 in SG on the road is S$220,000.

The price difference of S$178,000 is all levies & taxes.

Buying 1 In SG can get you 4 free ones in other countries.

So this system reduces potential car population by 75% technically

This system must change to give priority to foreigners. They are here to create good jobs for Sinkie retards which itself is not an easy task.

The COE systems have reach the level some how similar to the HDB pricing scheme….
Where the price had reach a certain level that the pappies are trying to “maintain” it…

Jeffery Seow already mention in his speech previously, if he had to only 1 pcs of COE… that pcs of COE would be given to PHV….
With this mindset, the COE would never ever go back down… IMHO - The price of COE for the next 1 to 2’years would be around the bracket between $90K to $130K

Actually it can follow BTO balloting system, no need COE.
But government would not so stupid to give up more than $billion collection every month

should be reclassified as certificate of elites. $699k for all sedans and suvs. low ses sinkies can fuck off dreaming about “owning” a car.
