So we hear from the horse’s mouth that the backlog of new HDB applicants runs all the way back SIXTEEN years. This is confirmed by the new measure relating to flat prioritizing for couples with children below 16 years old for which the minister referred to as “backlog”.

With the priority now given to this group of flat applicants, one wonders how the measure is supposed to boost birth rates? These are families with children, and most likely will not add to the national population anytime soon, or ever again. It is because it is more urgent for the sake of the PAP’s political survival that this large group of voters be taken care of first – with 2016 drawing nearer and nearer by the day?

How is this fair and reasonable for those planning to get married now and hoping to start a family but who have to keep their plans on ice until they have their own flats? Shouldn’t they get the priority? Wouldn’t this be a more reasonable approach given the situation we are already in?

To be fair to Khaw Boon Wan, the backlog is not his fault.

He was not in charge of HDB until recently.

Mah Bow Tan is the one who needs to shoulder the majority of the blame

Khaw has been left in the deep end by Mah.
