This has very serious implications. One of my good friend is a quantity surveyor, and these sort of thing is not apparently restricted to the 2 bogus PRC engineers. rather than blame HDB, my friend indicated that the blame is on IES. IES is the one that certifies and license REs in SIngapore. If their background check is so useless, that these fakes are slipping thru, than the fault lies with them. HDB and any other construction company in singapore will hire only RE designated engineers, and if the applicant can produce certification from IES, what are they to say? Its like when u go to your doctor, u don't request and check his credential everytime, right? U expect that the SMC has licensed him to practice medicine in singapore. Same scenario here.

These fake REs hired by HDB will immediately show their lack of knowledge and ignorance when they open their mouths. Construction companies looking to cut costs will play punk with them and smoke them. Easy to substitue a different method or material when the RE does not left from right. HDB has to go back and inspect all the buildings that these 2 REs worked on. If HDB is lucky, the buildings will hold together for 30 or 40 years. The HDB will take it back at that time anyway, and tear it down for new blocks. If unlucky, partial or total collapse. Contractor will not be fully liable anyway, since HDB's RE signed off at all the stages.

Although many IES council members are respected engineers, u got the PAP starting to place their cronies and lackeys into these professional organizations. I don't know how the bitch Lee Bee Wah can be a past president. I know she is a civil engineer by training, but why would a professional supposed non partisan org. even think appointing some one so PAP to that position. Very worrying trend to me.

I heard once from Malaysian engineers working in Singapore that the safety margins used in our HDB flats were well above what they were familiar with in their home country.

That would be the case if the engineers understood the specs. However, in this case, they're probably clueless.
