Malaysian singer Namewee has spoken publicly for the first time after being released from a nine-day detention in connection with the sudden death of Taiwanese influencer Iris Hsieh.
In a Facebook post, Namewee said this was the longest detention he has ever gone through. Over the first two days alone, he was interviewed by six different police investigation teams, with some sessions lasting up to 15 hours.
According to him, the teams involved included the Criminal Investigation Department, the D9 Serious Crimes Unit, D.W. Lokap Detention Centre, narcotics departments, and even a Special Task Force appointed by Malaysia’s Inspector General of Police. He described the officers as highly organised and professional, using various technologies to record statements and handle evidence.
Namewee also shared the emotional impact of the incident. He said it was his first time witnessing someone pass away right before his eyes. He described the moment as difficult, helpless, and shocking, adding that he had tried his best to save her but could not change the outcome. He said the scene would remain in his memory forever.
In the final part of his post, Namewee urged the public not to judge others based on their occupation. He emphasised that doing OnlyFans did not make the late influencer a bad person and appealed for an end to online harassment.
Police investigations into the case are still ongoing.
