Is it really a duty for any shop to provide a bag (free)", plastic or not??

Singapore should start charging for plastic bag.make it $10 a piece and you will see Singaporean bringing their own carrier.

I believe the cost of disposable bags was built-in the cost of the products.

lianbeng agrees with mark chew but tells stupid desmond off: go to hell lah! who will bring a shopping bag go everywhere?

Agreed, but if people for those planned shopping trip, they can bring their plastic bags.

But Mr Desmond Pereira, a 61-year-old warehouse manager who carries a cloth bag with him, feels there is little excuse in not chipping in to help the environment.

Another brainwashed idiot who believes the propaganda of Al Gore.

Hey buddy, wanna reduce your carbon footprint on this planet? Stop breathing.

lianbeng agrees with u too: those who are prepared for shopping can bring their own shopping trolley liao! :D

It's not a duty of a store to provide shopping bags, but it is thoughtful of that store to provide shopping bags for the shoppers' convenience.

Human beings are really an arrogant, self-important lot. A new and young species on this very old planet, and someone they got the nerve to think that reducing the usage of plastic bags, putting drinks into aluminium cans or switching off lights for one hour will somehow save the planet.

I've 15 of those 90 cents bags and every time I go to Ikea, I buy another one.

Forget the pro environment or the not so pro environment arguments. Mark Chew comments was arrogant and over the top. Ikea provides bags which are reusable for a fee. Those who can do without one need not pay.

Alternatively Mark can go elsewhere.

Pfff rumors...where's the proof?

Everything from the air you breath to the water you drink cost money. So what makes you think that those plastic bags that they used to provide is free. You mean the supplier supply plastic bags to them free of charge?

It is a SHAME for little RED DOT sinkieland cannot implement bring your own bag policy compare to country size thousands time BIGGER then this pisai RED DOT.

Typical lousy sinkie Mark who don't know how to comply yet can work as compliance executive

It's all about the critical mass. Somebody has to start it, why not you or me? Or are you worried about people laughing at you and need the government to back you up?
