In George Orwell's novel, Animal Farm, the pigs led by Napoleon, establish themselves as the ruling/superior class. They take over decision-making, enjoy privileges and use brute force (the dogs) to eliminate political rivals and suppress any opposition among the other animals. In the S'pore parallel, critics of the govt point to its use of a strong central authority and limited tolerance for political dissent. Methods cited include the use of defamation lawsuits to bankrupt and silence political opponents.

Goh Chok Tong said that contrary to the Opposition’s argument of needing more check and balances in Govt, the check comes from the “integrity of the leadership in PAP”. "We are our own checks, the integrity of our leaders and our MPs … not this seductive lie of check and balance" he said. An honest govt does not need to fear a check and balance from the Opposition.

After a plane crash, a lawyer, doctor and comedian survived but were captured by cannibals. The chief of the cannibals licked each of the survivors' arms, then ordered the lawyer and doctor to be barbecued, but released the comedian. The other 2 men demanded to know why the cannibals refused to eat the comedian. The chief replied that "He tastes funny".
