In Singapore, the word econ has never been associated with economical, just the opposite. Same same ntuc econ foodfare, econ insurance, econ kua cha, econ this, econ that.....

Bo pien, hdb wants the straight, high profits....an pek no choice but to pay to operate.....

Only good this about ECON is that at 6.15 in the morning or 10.30 at night, ECON may be still open....vs all other non 24 hour ntuc outlets....you can stock up your last minute condoms or early morning milk....

To be fair, there is one NTUC has one really econ business: Rice Garden. There they give you 2 veg + 1 meat + rice (big portions) for $1.50 (poor folks) and at $2.50 for students, elders, pioneers, etc. Sorry no Bandung thought.
